The furniture field 

According to IPEA, in 2007, the French furniture industry employed 73 435 employees and had a sales turnover of 9,1 billion Euros (before taxes). France is ranked as the 5th largest producer of furniture in the European Union and the 10th largest exporter worldwide (2,5 billion Euros before taxes). It is also the 4th largest importer (6,6 billion Euros before taxes).

The furniture industry in France includes a wide variety of specialties including :

• Housing Center
- Furnishings : furniture, seats, sofas
- Equipment : kitchen, bathrooms, shelving made to order
- Bedding : mattresses, box springs, duvet and pillows
- Art-work: furniture covering manufacturers, decorative art professionals for home decor, cabinet makers and artistic tapestries, contemporary workmanship

• Professional Life Center
- Fixtures and fittings
- Cafe, hotel and restaurant fixtures and fittings
- Office furniture
- Furniture for institutions
- Hospital furniture

•Additional items
- Funerary supplies (coffins)
- Organs
- Furniture manufacturing
- Furniture subcontracting

As regards the consumption of furniture, French spent about 9,65 billions TTC in 2008, that is a light 0,3 % fold with regard to the year 2007 which had registered a historically strong growth (7,3 %). The average budget becomes established in 1270 € by housework buyer (IPEA source).

The piece of furniture of kitchen stayed the segment of the most successful product in 2008 with a progress of its sales of 1,9 % in value, just in front of the bedding (1,6 %) marked by an acceleration of the renewal. The segment of the stuffed seats apoursuivi also its growth in 1,5 %.

The distribution of purchases by style is 70 % for the modern and the contemporary and 30 % for the former and the rustic.
